Bank Mandiri Becomes Majority Shareholder in Bank Syariah Indonesia Following Merger
At the beginning of 2021, Bank Syariah Mandiri was officially merged into Bank BRI Syariah, which was later rebranded as Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). This move was part of the Indonesian government’s initiative to consolidate state-owned Islamic banks into a single, stronger entity.
As a result of the capital contributions made during the merger process, Bank Mandiri emerged as the majority shareholder in Bank Syariah Indonesia, reinforcing its strategic role in the development of the national Islamic banking sector.
Najeela Shihab as Asia’s Top Outstanding Marketeer of The Year 2023
“I founded Cikal after gaining experience at the University of Indonesia, where I was a teaching staff member. At the same time, I had also become a young mother. Drawing from my personal journey as a parent, I began looking for an educational institution whose goals aligned with my own parenting values for my child.”

Najelaa Shihab: Cikal Born from the Need for Purposeful Education and Collaborative Learning
In her search for an educational institution that aligned with her parenting values, Najelaa Shihab found that none truly met her expectations. This realization led her to initiate Cikal, a school designed to nurture the best potential within each child. At Cikal, the educational process is a shared responsibility—one that involves not just parents or teachers, but the entire community.
“The main inspiration for me,” Najelaa emphasized, “was not wanting school to be seen merely as a place where children learn, but as a space where everyone in the community learns together, shares responsibility, and practices values that are worth modeling for our children. In the end, it’s all about helping our children grow into the best versions of themselves.”
